So what is Yoga anyway?

What is yoga?

**What is Yoga?**
If you’re new to yoga, or you’ve tried it and it wasn’t for you, it’s possible you didn’t experience the full spectrum of what yoga offers. My name is Dani, a yoga teacher and lifelong student, passionate about helping people find a yoga practice that fits them holistically—not just physically.
Yoga isn’t about lycra or green smoothies (ask any Indian yogi, and they'll likely confirm!). In Western culture, yoga has become a smorgasbord of styles, but true yoga is about union—bringing harmony to the mind, body, and soul.
As a teacher of Dru Yoga, I blend traditional postures with flowing movements, breath, and visualization. Dru Yoga aims to guide you into a state of unity and freedom, which is the heart of yoga. This purpose stems from Patanjali's Eight Limbs of Yoga, an ancient Indian philosophy:
1. **Yamas** – Moral codes, including non-violence and truthfulness.
2. **Niyamas** – Personal guidelines, like purity and contentment.
3. **Asana** – Originally, the physical postures prepared the body for meditation.
4. **Pranayama** – Breathing techniques to control vital energy.
5. **Pratyahara** – Withdrawal from the senses.
6. **Dharana** – Concentration.
7. **Dhyana** – Meditation.
8. **Samadhi** – Union with the divine.
These practices go beyond the physical. If physical limitations or insecurities are holding you back, remember: yoga meets you where you are. Healing starts with acceptance and compassion. Treat your body like a friend, not something to criticize or change.
Try a simple breathing exercise: sit upright, let your breath flow naturally, and focus on deep belly breaths, following the exhale with awareness. No special attire or complex poses needed—just start where you are.
Yoga is a beautiful journey and, for many, it’s life-changing. It’s a way to nurture your soul and connect with your body in a loving, respectful way.
**See you on the mat!**
Namaste,
Dani ☮️❤️🙏🕉️
